Nearer to God

Day 1 

2 Corinthians 4:1-18 (esp 7-10)

Discussion 

  • God loves cracked pots. My biggest struggle in drawing near to God is feeling like I am broken, not enough. Remembering that Christ’s light shines through the cracks in my facade - the broken places in my life - helps me to turn to God in my weakness rather than frantically striving to be enough. 

Life Application

  • Where has God shown in your brokenness to impact those around you?
  • What cracked pot do you have yet to surrender to God? 
  • How can you tap in to be renewed day by day — surrendering your weakness to the potter to be made into a beautiful likeness of Christ?

Day 2 

Isaiah 26:3 

Discussion 

  • This is a promise from God for a lasting kind of peace that comes from trusting in His goodness and faithfulness especially during uncertain times. 

Life Application 

  • Do you believe that you can have lasting peace by keeping your mind focused on God during trying times? 
  • What might keep you from trusting God despite His promise of perfect peace? 
  • Is there any area of your life where you are you feeling a lack of peace?

Romans 5:8 

Discussion 

  • He loved me so much when I still rejected Him.
  • How much more does He love me now! 

Life Application 

  • What specific changes can I make based on this scripture?
  • How can I use this scripture to get closer to God?

Day 4 

2 Corinthians 1:8-10 

Discussion 

  • I have found that when I'm going through the hardest times, even when things feel completely overwhelming – like a death sentence – this scripture reminds me to draw nearer to God. And every single time, He shows up and proves He's able to sustain me, not just temporarily, but always and forever. 

Life Application

  • What specifically has felt like a "sentence of death" in my life?
  • How does this passage encourage you (or not) in your faith regarding current or present "sentence of death" life feeling circumstances?

Day 5 

Jeremiah 29:13-14

Discussion 

  • This passage is a reminder of God’s promise to be found by those who genuinely seek Him. It speaks to the intimate relationship God desires with us — one where, when we turn to Him with sincerity and an open heart, He responds with presence and restoration. 

Life Application

  • In what ways am I currently seeking God with all my heart? Are there areas where I could be more intentional in pursuing Him?
  • What distractions or fears might be preventing me from drawing nearer to God? How can I overcome these obstacles?

Philippians 4:8 

Discussion 

  • When I am tempted to feel sad or discouraged I meditate on this scripture. 

Life Application

  • What do you do when Satan makes you feel like everything is going wrong? 
  • What is true, what is noble, what is right in your life? 
  • How how do you change your mind when a hardship happens?

Day 7 

Isaiah 32:17 

Discussion 

  • It is the answer to the question why be a disciple? The fruit of righteousness will be peace. Who doesn't want peace? 
  • The effect will be quietness and confidence forever. Need I say more? 

Life Application 

  • Why are you a disciple? 
  • Do you want to be at peace? 
  • If for no other reason wouldn't it be great to be confident in who you are forever?
