I recommend Brene Brown’s book “Braving the Wilderness” for anyone who is interested in being a “peacemaker”. It goes beyond learning how to resolve conflicts. It is helping me to see how I can prevent unnecessary conflict in the first place. It uses the current state of partisan politics in America and it’s impact on families and neighborhoods. Note: this is not a partisan book and doesn’t take sides on moral issues. As someone who is passionate about socio-economic policies, I found this book very helpful in becoming more open-minded to disciples who disagree with my politics.
Before meeting the real Jesus, Amy was a staunch atheist who enjoyed convincing church-going people that God does not exist. She was met and baptized while at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she was starting her Masters in Architecture. She retired in 2017 after 20 years of working as an Urban Planner in the United States. She has been a Christian for over 32 years, and has faithfully walked with God as a single woman. Her journey, like most of us, is full of mountain peak experiences and depths of disappointment and disillusionment. Like most single Christians, she dreamt of marriage, and having a family who will honor God with their lives. While waiting for God to bless her with a husband, she kept herself busy by exceling in her career, studying the Bible and making disciples, building lifelong friendships with believers, and serving in Kingdom Kids and HOPE Worldwide whenever she can. When God did not grant her fervent prayers for a husband, and she realized it was too late for her to bear children, she had to wrestle with her deep disappointment with God. Out of the darkness, her faith was refined and she stands today on the undeniable truths of God’s goodness and mercy. She has learned to be content, as Paul described in Philippians 4: 11 – 13. She hopes to serve in the European churches as a single woman, to encourage and serve her brothers and sisters in countries where being an Atheist is more acceptable than being a practicing Christian
